Hi, I am Jelle

Welcome to my portfolio

IDENTITY

I am a

user-centered, physical product designer,

My user-centered approach relies on insights gained from user evaluations (UEs). I believe user evaluations are essential because they provide direct insights from users, allowing me to create designs that truly resonate with their needs and desires. UEs guide my design decisions, aligning my creations with user preferences and facilitating engaging interactions. Additionally, UEs serve as a validation process, ensuring my designs fulfil their intended goals or highlighting areas for improvement.

With an energetic personality, I have a strong affinity for physical interactions. This passion translates into using physical prototypes during exploration, user evaluations, and concept demonstrations. Through this iterative process, I have developed a deep understanding of technology and the practical realization of my concepts.

However, I recognize that a preference for working with physical prototypes can result in the inclination to dismiss digital solutions. Although I prefer physical interactions, I believe that digital interactions can offer more appropriate solutions; depending on the design challenge. When I find myself rejecting digital solutions solely due to my preference for physical products, I experience my affinity for tangible interactions as a weakness.

Overall, I am committed to crafting user-centered designs that foster meaningful connections, embrace user preferences, and address psychological and emotional needs. My expertise in physical prototyping and user research allows me to create innovative and impactful experiences.

VISION

In my group of friends, even though we have different opinions and preferences, we

cultivate a spirit of collaboration.

In my ideal future, I envision the entire world collaborating like my group of friends. In this future, innovative designs offer us opportunities to engage and collaborate with people, leading to a culture of cooperation among all members of the world. The long-term perspective envisions a globally interconnected world that solves global challenges.

Because industrial designers are trained to consider the needs and behaviors of end users, I believe designers are well-equipped to foster collaboration. To achieve this, context plays a crucial role. Designers should have a broad and deep understanding of why collaborations either thrive or falter and why some have yet to form. This necessitates designers to look beyond their creations and perceive their target audience and the environment in which their products or services will be utilized. This comprehensive knowledge, coupled with an acute awareness of how design influences the target group and their surroundings, empowers designers to craft impactful designs that facilitate meaningful collaboration.

In essence, my ideal designer would constantly challenge their assumptions and ground their designs in the insights gained through critical reflection on their designs in real-world contexts.
